This substantial photographic monograph provides a fascinating overview of the Norwegian sculptor Nico Widerberg (born 1960) at work, and the painstaking processes he undertakes to produce his monumental and highly creative commissions and studio work in stone, bronze and glass.
Trygve Indrelid’s stunning photographs include Widerberg’s most recent collaboration with the distinguished Norwegian writer and poet Lars Saabye Christensen on the commission ‘The Doors’, which is also the title of Christensen’s compelling and masterful introductory essay.
“The block of stone is, to Nico, what the blank page is to me – possibility. But that’s where the difference begins, too. Nico removes. I add. I build, word by word. He removes, piece by piece.” Lars Saabye Christensen
