2016 

Works on a plaster bust of Jens Stoltenberg.

Has one-man exhibitions at Galleri Guddal, Rosendal, from 14 May – 19 June and Galleri Svae, Gjøvik. Participates in a group exhibition with his father Frans and his brother Thomas at Bærum Kunstforening from 6 – 28 February.


2017

Completes ‘The Doors’ a commission for the new wing of Sortland Hotel, Sortland, in collaboration with Lars Saabye Christiansen. Sixteen doors with images by Widerberg, inscribed with Christensen’s texts. Works on plaster busts of his sons Auguste and Emanuel Coucheron Widerberg, and Thorvald Stoltenberg. Installs ‘Hoverers’ in bronze, larvikite, length 180cm for Villa Gjelsten, Bygdøy, Oslo. In London to install ‘Fountains’, a memorial sculpture at the Norwegian Church Abroad, St Olav’s Square, London. 


Has one-man exhibitions at KHÅK Kunsthall, Ålesund Kunstforening, from 28 October – 25 November; Gallery Lille Martine from 25 November to 3 December; Sagbladfabrikken, Hamar and Soli Brug, Sarpsborg. Participates in a joint exhibition with Ørnulf Opdahl at Gallery Kulviksvingen, Selbn, from 17 June – 12 August; in the group exhibition the ‘Blues in Art’ with Ørnulf Opdahl, Kjell Nupen, Magne Furuholmen, Sidsel Colbiornsen, Arne Nøst and Christoffer Nielsen at Telemarksgalleriet, Netodden from 24 May – 17 September, followed by the anniversary exhibition at Gamle Ormelet, Tjørne, from 1 – 30 July. 


April: Death of his father Frans Widerberg (1934 – 2017) 


2018

Completion of 'Vannfall’ (Waterfall) a monumental bronze sculpture for Kanalveien 7, commissioned by Strømbergruppen, Bergen. Publication of the first comprehensive monograph Nico Widerberg Sculpture, with an essay ‘The Doors’ by Lars Saabye Christensen, photographs by Trygve Indrelid, published by Press with English and Norwegian editions. Installs work at Vestlia Resort, Geilo.


Holds one-man exhibition at Kunstgalleriet in Stavanger; Nicolines Hus, in Karagerø; Rælingen Kunstforening from 1 – 16 September and Gallery Vanntårnet, Nesodden Kunstforening from 2 – 17 December. Participates in the anniversary exhibition at Gallery Elizabeth G Tysnes.


2019 

Installs the bronze maquette for ‘Ski Jumper’, a commission for Holmenkollen, and completes the commission for Vedal Atrium.


Exhibits twelve new pieces of sculpture in the one-man exhibition ‘Light and Dark’ at Gallery Haaken, Oslo, from 7 February to 3 March; presents new woodcuts and lithographs in the exhibition ‘Pressed’ at Kunstverket, Oslo from 24 August to 17 November and paintings, sculpture and prints at ArtGate Sandvika from 7 – 30 March. On the 9 May, Widerberg participates in a gallery discussion with the author Cecilie Skeide during his one-man exhibition at Gallery Zink in Lillehammer, from 13 April – 19 May. Participates in group exhibitions at Gallery Røed Jeløy in Moss, from 15 June – 4 August; and a joint exhibition with Christopher Rådlund at Gallery Røed from 10 August – 8 September.


2020

Participates in the mixed media group exhibition ‘Villa Faraldi’ at Bærum Kunstforening with artists associated with the town in northern Italy, including Inger Sitter, Frans Widerberg, Thomas Widerberg, Fritz Røed, Gabriella Gøransson, Per Gøransson and Eli Marie Johnsen. The exhibition was scheduled to open from 4 April – 3 May but was rescheduled to open from 7 – 29 November, due to the Covid pandemic. Presents paintings, sculpture and prints at Gallery Sagesund, near Tvedestrand, from 19 July – 9 August.


October: celebrates his sixtieth birthday.


In December, installs the first stage of the stone and bronze commission ‘Fra bygd til by,’ (From Village to City) with A Cow, a Bull, a Calf for the Røa Torg housing and shopping development in Oslo.


Works on a new series of etchings, woodcuts, lithographs and jewellery.


2021 

January: His mother Aasa dies.


One-Man exhibition at Bølgen Kulturhus, Larvik from 27 March – 18 April.
