Installs ‘Timid Man’ in glass and steel, measuring 170cm high, commissioned for the yacht Aglaya and ‘Herman’ at Sortland Hotel, Sortland

2012
Commissioned by an anonymous benefactor to create a memorial for each of the 52 towns across Norway where 72 victims of the 22 July 2011 Utøya massacre lived. Each monument is inscribed with Lars Saabye Christensen’s poem from the memorial service. “They are all individual pieces of stone, but it’s the same sculpture, it’s the same poem and the same date. The idea is that they are all linked, so that you can recognise that this is a community that has lost someone.” Reviews in the Art Newspaper 1 March 2012 and The Observer 15 April 2012.
Installation of ‘Sculpture Group’ at Magasinparken, Kongsberg. One-man exhibitions at Kunstgalleriet, Stavanger; Gallery Vike, Kongsberg; Galleri Osebro, Porsgrunn and Studio Opdahl, Flø. 2013
Installs ‘Lighthouse‘, a commission for Munkebakken, Fornebu, produced in larvikite granite, bronze and LED lighting, measuring 4.5metres high; ‘Collar and Wave’, 2012, the last of the commissions by the University Gallery for the city centre campus is installed on Northumberland Road, measuring 4.20 metres high, carved from Labrador granite, weighing over 3,000 kg. Supports Maggie’s the Cancer Caring Trust with long-term loans of sculpture at its new centres in Newcastle and Aberdeen. Kjersti Nipen interviews Widerberg for the newspaper Aftenposten 25 June.
Has one-man exhibitions of sculpture, prints and paintings at Galleri Svae, Gjøvik, from 13 April – 19 May; presents new sculpture at his exhibition titled ‘Resistance’ at Gallery Haaken, Olso, from 10 October – 10 November, as well as other exhibitions in Germany at Glücksburg Castle and Gallery Zink, Lillehammer. Participates in the group exhibition at the Foundation for Danish – Norwegian Cooperation, Schäffergården, Denmark from 13 April – 19 May; Gallery Rød Herregård, Halden from 16 November – 1 December, and with his father Frans Widerberg at the Grieg Hall, Bergen, an exhibition sponsored by Strømbergruppen, Bergen. The Widerberg Building, a six-storey office building owned by Strømbergruppen Bergen opens in Bergen with permanent collections of paintings by Frans Widerberg and sculpture inside and out by Nico Widerberg.
2014
‘Wings’ a commission for Asker Panorama, Asker, produced in Larvikite granite, measuring 5 metres high. Completes the commission ‘Homecoming’ 2007 – 2014, with the installation of the last of four monumental works at Losby Gods, Lørenskog.
One-man exhibitions at Bærum Kunstforening, Sandivika, from 8 – 30 March; Kunstverket Galleri, Oslo, from 6 – 30 November 2014; Ålesund Kunstforening, from 1 – 21 September; Galleri Nicolines Hus, Kragerø and Galleri Bi-Z, Kristiansand. Participates in a group exhibition at Galleri Elizabeth G, Tysnes, Norway.
2015
Installs ‘Community’ a gift by the Coop for Bjørvika, the new cultural centre in Oslo where the National Opera and the Munch Museum are located. Installs ‘Flyers’, comprising three bronze and stained-glass sculptures suspended from the ceiling in the atrium at Kanalveien 11, a commission for Strømberggruppen, Bergen.
Travels to Germany where he participates in the Sculpture Symposium at the Norwegian Church Abroad in Hamburg. In August he is festival artist at the Haugesund International Jazz Festival, Silda; exhibits over fifty paintings at Gallery Fine Art, Oslo, from 5 – 22 November with other exhibitions at Galleri KS, Tønsberg; Galleri His, Arendal; Galleri Elsa, Namsos; Galleri Henrik Garner, Moss and Galleri Athene, Drammen.
